How to Make a Dry or Moist Warm Compress

The dry or moist warm compress is used to relieve pain caused by various diseases such as: headaches, backache, neck ache, toothaches, colds and other ailments. The warm compress helps in relieving pain instantly. It may also help in preventing future painful symptoms from occurring.

In case you are suffering from any kind of headache, it is recommended that you apply a dry or moist warm compress. You need to use a wet or dry one depending upon your preference. If you have a fever, then it would be better if you apply a damp warm compress. A dry one will not do anything for you.

You can also apply a dry or moist warm compress to prevent yourself from getting a cold. However, if you are going to apply it to prevent yourself from catching a cold, then you must first take some medicine before applying the warm compress.

There are many different types of warm compresses available in the market today. Nowadays, you can even find a moist warm compress in the form of a packet. All you have to do is add hot water to it and then apply it to the affected area.

These packets are available in different shapes and sizes depending upon the kind of pain that you are suffering from. You can also get these packets from different brands. Always go for a reputed brand as they produce high-quality products.

Moist warm compress can also be made at home. To prepare the compress, take a bowl and add 2 cups of water in it and then add 2 tablespoons of table salt to it. Stir the mixture using a clean cloth or your hand until all the salt dissolves completely in the water.

The solution should neither be too hard nor too soft. You need to use it immediately since it will soon solidify. Also, do not apply too much of the solution since it may lead to skin irritation or rashes on the skin.

Always remember to wash your hands before and after you apply the warm compress to your body. This is very important as it will prevent the infection of any kind of disease.

Never apply a hot compress directly on your skin without using a clean cloth between the compress and your skin. This will protect you from getting burnt. Always wash the cloth with hot water before you apply it on your skin.

Always remember to wash the compress if you have already used it earlier for something else. Bacteria and other microorganisms tend to grow if the compress is not cleaned properly. This might give you infections or other diseases.

If you prefer the dry warm compress, then mix 2 cups of dried epsom salt in 1/2 gallon of very hot water. Stir the mixture until all the salt dissolves completely. Now take a clean soft towel and wrap it around the affected area. Re-soak the towel in the solution every 2 hours.

This will help in removing all the dead skin cells and will also provide intense moisturizing to the skin.

You may also use a microwave to heat up the epsom salt mixture until it gets warm. Never overheat it as it may lead to skin burns.

Remember to use it as hot as you can stand. If your condition is serious, then you can even go for a very hot solution. This will give you instant relief from pain and other discomforts.

Always remember to apply the warm compress on the affected area only. Applying it on the whole body may lead to skin irritation or rashes.

You may even mix 1/2 cup of baking soda in 1 quart of very hot water to prepare a compress.

Baking soda works as a natural exfoliant and will also relieve you from pain and other discomforts. Always remember to clean the affected area before applying this compress.

Keep changing the compress until you feel relief from the pain. You may also add a few drops of lavender or peppermint oil to the solution to give yourself maximum relaxation.

When you buy these creams from the store or pharmacy, do not accept the package if the seal is broken or damaged in any way. This is because the seal is there for a reason and if it is broken then it may lead to bacterial infection which can cause serious skin rashes or other skin problems.

You can also make hot cream at home using simple ingredients available in your kitchen pantry. Take a bowl and mix 1 cup of plain yogurt with 1/2 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of lemon juice.

Stir the mixture well and then cover it. Keep it in a warm place for 3 to 4 days. You will notice that a layer of white substance has formed at the top. This is the good stuff!

Strain this mixture and keep the liquid in the refrigerator.

When you are going to use it, apply a thin layer of this liquid on the area where the rash appears. This will soothe the itchy and damaged skin and will also relieve you from pain and other discomforts.

You may also use aloe vera instead of milk and lemon juice. Just cut off a thin slice of an aloe vera leaf and extract the gel from inside the leaf. Apply this gel directly on the rash. It will soothe your skin and give you quick relief from pain and other discomforts.

You may also use this solution to treat sunburn too. But if the rash is serious then you should visit a dermatologist as soon as possible. Your doctor will give you an ointment or some pills which you should apply on the affected area. These pills and creams will help in relieving the symptoms instantly.

They will also help in getting rid of rashes permanently. However, do not self-medicate yourself. Always follow your doctor’s advice and you will definitely get rid of this condition. If you have serious symptoms like blisters or open sores then you need to visit a doctor immediately.

You should also keep the area dry, especially in summers. The wetness can increase the likelihood of bacterial and fungal growth which can further damage your skin. You may use talc to keep the area dry and cool. You may also ask your dermatologist for a solution which can keep the rash area dry.

Just take care of your skin and keep it dry. If you have been wearing damp clothes or socks for a very long time then change them immediately. Moisture is not good for the skin as it can cause rashes or other skin problems.

If the rash has consumed a major portion of your body and is not going even after trying these home remedies, visit a dermatologist immediately. These doctors have different medicines and ointments to treat such skin problems including rashes. So, do not waste any time and visit a doctor if the problem is getting out of hand.

You can also visit a doctor before the rash spreads over your whole body. They will recommend special ointments or pills for you to use on a daily basis. These are not very expensive and are easily available over the counter. You can get them from your local pharmacy.

Always use these as recommended by your doctor. They will definitely help you in preventing such skin conditions.

These ointments and pills will keep the area dry and cool. This, in turn, will rule out the chances of fungal and bacterial growth. Such growth of microorganisms can cause serious skin issues which may damage your skin or may even require surgery in some cases.

So, be careful and always use these ointments and creams as advised by your dermatologist.

You can also use baby oils, petroleum jelly or other moisturizers if your skin tends to get dry easily. These moisturizers will help in keeping your skin hydrated.

However, remember that these are just temporary solutions and you should always try to find the underlying cause for this condition otherwise, it may recur in the future.

6. If you have a rash in your armpit then you should try not to sweat too much. Use a deodorant after showering and wear loose clothing that provides ventilation. Avoid dirty clothes as the bacteria from the soil can cause irritation.

7. You can also apply an ice pack or a bag of frozen vegetables wrapped in a thin towel on the rash for about 10 minutes every 2-3 hours.

8. If you have a rash in your pubic area, wear underwear that is made of soft cotton and not synthetic fabrics.

You can also try baby powder to soothe the affected area.

9. If you have a rash between your toes, make sure to wear properly fitting shoes.

Always wear clean socks and if possible, let your feet air dry rather than using a blow dryer after bathing or swimming.

10. If you have a rash on the area between your buttocks, it is very important to keep this area clean and dry. Take extra care when sitting on public toilet seats as they are a hotbed for germs.

If the rash has not improved in 2-3 days, see a doctor, as you may have an infection which requires antibiotics.

If none of these methods work then go see a dermatologist.
