What Is Nair?
Nair (Nickel) is a type of natural oil that comes from Nicotiana species. These plants are found in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal. They have been used for centuries to treat skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema and dandruff. According to Wikipedia: “Nicotiana species contain compounds called nicotinic acid which act on keratinocytes (skin cells), stimulating cell proliferation.”
How Does Nair Work?
The main active ingredient in Nair is Nicotin, which acts on keratinocytes (skin cells). When applied topically, it works by inhibiting melanogenesis (the production of melanin) and thereby reducing pigmentation. It may also reduce sebum production. Its mechanism of action is not fully understood but it has been shown to inhibit P450 enzymes involved in lipid metabolism.
Benefits Of Using Nair Hair Removal Products Over Other Hair Removing Products
It is known that there are some side effects associated with using hair removal products. One of them is irritation or allergic reactions. There are several types of these reactions; however, most commonly they include burning, stinging, itching and swelling of the affected area.
Another common reaction is redness and peeling of the skin around the hairline. Allergic reactions are more common in women than men, and they can experience any of the above symptoms as well as hives, blistering and rashes. The most severe allergic reactions include anaphylactic shock, which could be fatal if not treated immediately.
Nair depilatories do not cause these side effects. Instead of removing the entire hair all the way back to the root, it breaks the disulfide bond, causing the hair to easily slide right off. Because it doesn’t reach the roots, there is no damage to your skin or pain.
The hair that does grow after using Nair generally comes back thinner and weaker, because the roots haven’t been damaged either. In addition, the hair that does grow back is often much lighter than the rest.
What Is The Treatment For Nair Allergic Reactions?
An allergic reaction to any product should be taken very seriously. In some cases, anaphylactic shock can result. If you think you’re having an allergic reaction, you should seek medical attention immediately. Call emergency services or go to the closest hospital emergency room.
What Are The Side Effects Of Nair?
Nair is a very safe product. It does not cause any damage to the skin or pain; however, there are some side effects:
1. Skin irritation and peeling.
This is the most common side effect and can last up to a week after application. Avoid direct contact with the sun as this may intensify the effects. Apply moisturizer frequently.
2. Over-drying of the skin.
This is less common but can still happen. In this case, you should also avoid direct contact with the sun and apply a moisturizer frequently.
3. Bleaching effects.
The skin may turn white where the Nair product was applied.
These side effects are usually temporary and will go away within a few days or weeks. In some rare cases, permanent discoloration or lightening of the skin can occur.
The most dangerous side effect of Nair is its potential to cause an allergic reaction. If you experience any of the above symptoms or other severe symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
How To Prevent Or Reduce Nair Allergies?
As with any hair removal product, an allergy can develop at any time. If you experience any of the following symptoms while using Nair, stop using it immediately and see a doctor:
1. Difficulty breathing
2. Swelling of tongue or lips
3. Vomiting
4. Wheezing
5. Dizziness
6. Hives
7. Rash
8. Any other unexplained symptom
How To Get Rid Of Unwanted Hair?
If you want to get rid of your unwanted hair, but you don’t want to risk using Nair, here are some other options:
1. Laser hair removal.
This is the most effective and permanent way to remove hair. It involves exposing the hair to pulses of lasers that damage and destroy the follicles so that they never grow back. It can be a long and costly process, but it is effective.
2. Waxing.
This is a method of hair removal in which wax is applied to the skin and then the hair is ripped out from the roots.
3. Electrolysis.
This is similar to laser hair removal, except a needle is used to damage the hair follicles rather than lasers. It is less effective and more painful than laser hair removal, but it can be cheaper and it still can be effective for some people.
4. Depilatory creams.
These are creams that can be applied to the skin that cause the hair to dissolve and wash away.
5. Shaving.
This is a temporary solution to removing hair. When you shave, you are cutting the hair off at the surface of the skin. If done correctly, this can be a quick and effective method; however, many people find that when they shave, they often end up with stubble that can be irritating to the skin.
6. Pre-electric epilators.
These can be used to pull out hair before using Nair or other depilatory creams.
7. Laser combs.
These are devices that use laser technology to fire lasers at your hair to damage the follicle without causing any harm to the skin.
8. Wax strips.
These can be used in combination with Nair or other depilatory creams for quick and easy hair removal.
Whichever method you choose for removing your unwanted hair, be sure to do a patch test first. Apply a small amount of the product of your choice to the inside of your arm or your leg and leave it there for a couple of days. If you don’t have any adverse reactions after two days, you are probably safe to use it on the rest of your body.
