What Is Uncoordinated Movement?
Uncoordinated movement is defined as any movement or action which does not follow the normal pattern of a person’s muscles. A person with uncoordinated movements may have difficulty walking, standing up straight, bending over, reaching for objects, climbing stairs etc.
The word “uncoordinated” means “not coordinated”. When we say uncoordinated movement, it refers to the fact that these actions are performed without the use of joints and other parts of the body.
It is important to note that uncoordinated movement does not mean lack of strength or power. It simply means that these movements do not follow a regular pattern.
For example, if someone walks with their hands together, they will still be able to walk normally because there is no joint involved in this action.
In general, uncoordinated movement occurs when one part of the body performs an action while another part of the body is doing something else. For example, if I put my hand into your pocket and then push you away from me, this would be considered uncoordinated movement.
If instead I put my hand into your pocket but then pull out your wallet and throw it at you, this would be considered coordinated movement.
Why Uncoordinated Movements Occur?
As detailed above, uncoordinated movements occur when the brain sends out conflicting signals to the muscles. There are a number of possible reasons that can cause this to happen:
Damage to the nerves or brain: When damage occurs to the nerves or brain, the signals which are sent out by the brain may not reach the muscles correctly. This results in uncoordinated movements.
Certain diseases and health conditions: Certain diseases and health conditions such as multiple sclerosis can cause the brain to work improperly. Poor nutrition: When a person does not get enough of certain nutrients in their diet, the brain may not work as well as it should. This can lead to uncoordinated movements.
Uncoordinated movement is very common among people with certain conditions. These conditions can affect muscles, nerves or the brain.
In most cases, uncoordinated movement is harmless and does not lead to any other complications.
Can Uncoordinated Movements Be Treated Or Prevented?
In most cases, uncoordinated movements do not require any sort of treatment. For some people though, certain treatments can help in preventing the occurrence of uncoordinated movements. These treatments include:
Getting more exercise: Regular exercise is known to improve the brain’s functions.
Sticking to a healthy diet: Certain nutrients are known to help the brain to work better. A person can get these nutrients by eating a well balanced diet.
Reducing stress: When a person is under a lot of stress, their body produces certain chemicals which can sometimes interfere with brain functions. Reducing or eliminating stress can help to minimize uncoordinated movements.
Taking medicine: In some cases, taking medicine for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease can also help to improve movement.
Surgery: In very rare cases, surgery may be required to correct damage to the parts of the brain which control movement.
Does Marijuana Cause Uncoordinated Movements?
There is no evidence to suggest that marijuana causes uncoordinated movements. In fact, a growing number of studies have shown that marijuana can actually help to improve movement in certain people. For example, it has been found to be an effective treatment for people with multiple sclerosis.
