What does it mean to be touch starved?
Touch Starvation: A state where your body cannot produce enough energy to keep you alive. You are literally starving from lack of food. Your body is so weak that you might die if someone were to simply leave you alone all day long without feeding or water.
When did you first experience this condition?
I was touched starvied when I was 5 years old. My mother left me alone while she went into the kitchen to get something out of the fridge. She never came back. I had no idea what she looked like or what she looked like doing but my mind immediately started thinking about her because I knew it would make me feel better if I could think about her again. I remember crying and begging her not to leave me there. When she didn’t return, I began to cry myself until one of my siblings found me and took me home.
How do you know it’s touch starved?
The only way I can explain it is like if someone were to put their hand over your mouth and then just walk away. It feels very similar. It’s like someone has shoved their hand over your mouth and nose and then just walked away. You want nothing more than for them to return so that you can breathe again. It’s suffocating.
Do you think it has anything to do with why you feel the way you do?
