Peeing During Sexual Activity
What causes it? Why do some people pee while having sexual activity? How can I prevent it from happening again?
These are questions that many people have when they hear the word “urination.” While there is no single answer to these questions, there are several things you can try to reduce your chances of experiencing this problem.
The most common cause of urinating during sexual activity is a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs occur when bacteria invade the urethra, which leads to urine leaking out of the bladder. There are two types of UTIs: bacterial and viral. Bacterial infections usually go away on their own without treatment; however, sometimes they need antibiotics to kill off all the germs. Viral infections can be very serious if left untreated.
If you have a urinary tract infection, then you may experience pain during urination and/or passing urine. You may also feel like you’re not getting enough liquid into your body. If you have any of these symptoms, see your doctor right away!
Urinary tract infections are treatable with antibiotics. However, they aren’t always effective. Sometimes the infection will recur after treatment and sometimes it won’t get better at all. Other times, the infection goes away completely but then comes back again later on in life.
How does one know if they have a UTI?
Here is a list of the symptoms:
Pain or burning sensation while urinating
Frequent urge to urinate, or the feeling that you just can’t quite empty your bladder
Mild fever (99-100 degrees)
Pain in lower back or side (kidney area)
Blood in urine
Cloudy or bad-smelling urine
If you have any of these symptoms, seek medical attention right away.
Another common cause of urinary incontinence is a weak bladder. There are two reasons why people have weak bladders: their muscles are too relaxed or too tense. If you have a weak bladder that is too relaxed, you won’t be able to stop yourself from leaking even if you’re only slightly aroused. If you have a weak bladder that is too tense, you may find that your muscles contract involuntarily when you’re trying to urinate or empty your bladder.
If you think you suffer from a weak bladder, there are some exercises that can help strengthen your muscles. The first is to insert your finger into your urethra. Then, try to stop the flow of urine. Next, clench and unclench your pelvic muscles as if you’re stopping yourself from passing gas. Do these exercises three or four times a day for best results.
Another cause of involuntary urination is severe dehydration. If you’re severely dehydrated, your body can’t produce enough urine to flush out your system. One obvious sign that you’re severely dehydrated is if you have a dry mouth. Other symptoms include dark yellow urine, lightheadedness, and dizziness. If you experience these symptoms, it’s best that you increase your water intake as soon as possible.
