This causes an imbalance that affects every organ in the body, including the digestive system. Progesterone, in particular, is the culprit for this problem.

As with many conditions that cause constipation, drinking more liquids and eating more fiber are the most common home remedies. Other natural solutions include:

1. Water

Adding more water to your diet can help relieve and prevent constipation naturally. Most people don’t drink anywhere near the recommended amount of water each day. Most experts recommend drinking eight 8-ounce glasses per day.

2. Fiber

Most women don’t get enough fiber in their diet. This causes several health issues that can be prevented with proper nutrition. Dietary fiber helps regulate bowel movements and keeps you “regular”.

Most doctors recommend between 25 and 35 grams of fiber each day. Sources of dietary fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans.

3. Exercise

Exercising can help prevent several health issues including constipation caused by menopause. The best types of exercises for keeping the digestive system healthy include walking, running, aerobics and weight training.

4. Magnesium Citrate

Some over-the-counter treatments contain magnesium citrate, an ingredient that can help relieve constipation.
