The National Cancer Institute states that there is no evidence that drinking coffee or any other kind of caffeinated beverage increases your risk for cancer. However, some studies have shown an increased risk for certain cancers such as colorectal, liver and kidney tumors among others.

There are several reasons why coffee may increase your risk for cancer. One reason is because it contains caffeine which stimulates the body to release chemicals called catecholamines.
These chemicals stimulate cell growth and cause cells to divide faster than normal. They also affect blood sugar levels, which can lead to diabetes mellitus and obesity. Obesity is a risk factor for several types of cancers.
Caffeine causes the production of free radicals in the body. These chemicals can cause DNA damage that may lead to cancer development.

However, some free radicals may play a role in cancer development and research has shown that people who do not consume caffeinated beverages have a lower risk for cancer. It is important to note, however, that some studies have also shown that people who drink 4 or more cups of coffee per day have a lower risk of developing Parkinson’s disease than people who do not drink any coffee.
There are several suggested methods to help reduce the risk of developing cancer from drinking coffee. One suggestion is to switch from coffee to green tea.
Green tea contains large amounts of catechins, a chemical that inhibits the action of free radicals in the body. Another method is to add milk, which helps block the effects of free radicals. However, adding milk may increase the amount of saturated fat and calories in your coffee. Using a cup with an insert or a cardboard sleeve can also help block some of the effects of free radicals in coffee.

Of course, this doesn’t include the milk and sugar that you put into your coffee. One way around this is to use flavored syrups instead of milk and sugar. However, many of these syrups still contain a considerable amount of calories so it would be best to read the labels before buying.
Another reason to substitute coffee for soda is because coffee has antioxidants. Antioxidants help prevent free radicals from damaging cells in the body.
This means that by having coffee you are not only saving calories but also helping your body fight against disease. Coffee also contains potassium, bromide, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc. Having coffee every once in a while won’t do too much harm to your body. However, it is best to remember that too much of anything can be harmful. Therefore, people with diagnosed health problems like heart disease, osteoporosis, or any type of seizures should speak with their physician before increasing their coffee intake.
Nowadays there are many different ways to enjoy coffee other than the traditional cup. For example, you can purchase coffee ice cream, strawberries dipped in coffee candy, and even coffee cake.
If you are looking for a healthier option you could always add fresh fruit to your coffee instead of sugar and milk. People have even been known to put tomatoes and avocados in their coffee. It might not sound very appetizing but it still gets the job done.
As you can see, there is much more to coffee than just the drink itself. It is a great way to add flavor to other foods as well as a healthy addition to your daily diet.
