One reason could be due to hormonal changes during menstruation. Other causes include infection, stress, lack of sleep and other physical factors.

The symptoms of severe menstrual cramps vary from woman to woman and they may not appear at all during certain phases of their cycle. They may occur anytime after menopause or even before it occurs. Some women get them only once in a lifetime.

There are various treatments available to treat severe menstrual cramps including herbal remedies, over-the-counter (OTC) medications and surgery. However, none of these methods is guaranteed to cure the problem completely. For some women, there will always be periods where they don’t feel any cramps whatsoever. If you suffer from severe menstrual cramps then your doctor may recommend surgical treatment if you want to avoid having another painful period.
