How to Get Rid of Fleas in Your House, in Your Yard, and More

How to Get Rid of Fleas in Your Home?

Flea infestations are common among cats. Cats usually come into contact with fleas from other animals or humans. Cat fleas are very small insects which live on the skin and fur of cats and dogs. They transmit various diseases such as feline panleukopenia (feline leukemia), feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and canine distemper viruses (CDV). These diseases cause death in cats and dogs.

Cat fleas are not only found on the body of cats but they also survive outdoors where they breed and multiply. If you have pets, then chances are that there are fleas living outside.

Flea bites may occur when pet owners touch their pets’ bodies or scratch them accidentally while cleaning their homes. Cat flea bites can become infected with rabies, which is fatal in humans.

The best way to get rid of fleas is to prevent them from breeding inside the house. You can use insecticides in your garden, around your property and even indoors.

Insecticide sprays kill adult fleas and larvae within 24 hours. However, these products are expensive and difficult to apply properly. A better solution is using natural methods such as soaking clothes in water or applying petroleum jelly on the affected area of the body.

How to Get Rid of Fleas in Your Yard?

A good natural way to get rid of fleas in the yard is to spread diatomaceous earth (DE) on your yard. This can be sprinkled over grass, woodpiles and wherever you see flea activity. DE kills flea larvae that live in the soil by dehydrating them. After a week or two, you will see less and less fleas in your yard.

Another natural way to get rid of fleas is to spread fresh lemon or orange peels around the yard. Fleas do not like the smell of these peels, so they will try to stay away from them.
