Folic Acid For Hair Growth: Biotin And Other Facts About This Nutrient
The fact that folic acid helps in preventing neural tube defects (NTDs) was discovered back in the early 1950’s. Nowadays it is one of the most common vitamins used for prevention of birth defects such as Down syndrome, Edwards Syndrome, Trisomy 18, Turner Syndrome and others.
In the past, women were advised not to get pregnant until they had already been through menopause. Today, however, there are no longer any restrictions on getting pregnant during your reproductive years. This means that anyone can become pregnant at any age.
However, if you have a family history of NTDs then it may be wise to wait until you reach a certain age before trying for pregnancy.
There are two forms of folate, 5’9′-methylenetetrahydrofolate (MTHFR) and 6′-mono(2H)-pyridoxal phosphate (MPR). Methylenetetrahydrofolate is the form that is responsible for converting food into energy and is essential for normal cell function. The other form is Methylol Purple (MEP) which is a water-soluble form of the B9 vitamin.
This form is used during the transport of 5’9-methylenetetrahydrofolate and helps to identify whether there is too much or too little in a particular tissue. If there is too much then it will bind to the excess, and if there is too little it will bind to the shortfall.
