But there are many other ways to make these desserts with coconut milk instead of the usual dairy products.

I have had the pleasure to try some authentic Indian food during my vacation in Goa. It was absolutely delicious.

And when I say authentic, I mean really authentic because I had it at some roadside stalls. The food had a lot of coconut in it.

This got me thinking whether there are any alternatives to coconut milk for cooking Indian food at home?

After some research here is a list of potential alternatives that you can try out:

Potatoes – You can grate boiled potatoes and use it in the same way as coconut milk. Vegetable Stock – It is not the most flavorful option, but works well in curries or soups.

Cashew Nuts – Grinding cashew nuts and adding some water can make a good replacement for coconut milk.

We all have our favorite recipes at home and we are reluctant to change them. But there is nothing like trying out something new every once in a while.

Almond Milk – Almond milk can also work as a substitute. It has a very sweet taste though, so you may have to experiment with the recipe a little bit.

Rice Milk – This one is very similar to almond milk, but it has a slightly different taste.

Coconut Cream – If you can get your hands on some, then it can work as an excellent substitute for coconut milk. The only problem is that not many stores carry this product.

You may have to search for awhile if you want to use this option. Additionally, the fat content will be higher than normal coconut milk, but it should still work in most recipes.

These are just a few of the more popular options that you can try. Remember, a substitute is not going to give you the exact same taste and flavor, but it should still be somewhat close.

A lot of the time it just comes down to personal preference.
