The first thing to note is that there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to cheating on keto. Some people swear by it while others say they don’t like the idea of taking any sort of laxative or diuretic drug. There’s even some people who feel that you shouldn’t cheat at all because if you do then your body won’t be able to properly utilize fat stores as efficiently during the dieting phase.
However, there is a good chance that you may lose weight during the dieting phase without doing anything other than cutting out certain foods. That’s why I think it’s worth mentioning here that you might gain back some of those pounds if you’re not careful with what you eat and drink. So let me explain my own personal experience:
I’ve been eating low carb for almost two years now and have lost over 100 lbs so far (and counting). However, I still occasionally indulge in a few treats such as ice cream, cookies, cake and chocolate. For whatever reason though, I’m never really sure whether these indulgences are helping me maintain my current weight loss or if they’re just making me feel better mentally and physically.
It’s actually pretty easy to see where this is going; I’ll probably get hungry again soon enough and end up overeating which will lead to another binge. It’s a familiar pattern for me and it’s part of the reason why I suggest that you take a different approach than I do. My opinion on cheating is this:
If you’re going to indulge in a low carb treat every once in awhile then that’s your prerogative; everyone does things differently! However, if you normally have trouble with portion control then it might be better if you didn’t eat or drink certain things at all.
