7 Clever Substitutes for Brown Sugar

1) Honey:

Honey is a natural sweetener derived from flowers and fruits. It is one of the most common ingredients used in baking, beverages, desserts, candies and confectionery. Honey contains many health benefits such as being rich in vitamins A and D; it helps with digestion; it aids in weight loss; it lowers cholesterol levels; it protects against tooth decay and even improves eye sight!

2) Cocoa Powder:

Cocoa powder is a type of cocoa bean that is ground into fine particles. It’s widely used in foods, drinks and other products because of its high nutritional value. It’s also known to have antibacterial properties and anti-inflammatory effects. You may use it as a replacement for butter or margarine when making baked goods or cakes. It also works well in coffee substitutes, ice cream, chocolate mousse and so much more!

3) Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil is obtained from mature coconuts. It’s a good source of medium chain fatty acids (MCT). MCTs are naturally occurring fats found in coconut oil that have been shown to improve blood lipid profiles and reduce inflammation. They’re also thought to increase energy levels, decrease hunger and promote weight loss. They’re great for your skin too!

4) Agave Nectar:

The agave plant is a succulent that is primarily grown in Mexico. It’s used to create a sweet syrup that has a consistency similar to honey. It’s great for diabetics since it contains a minimal amount of carbohydrates. It also has a low glycemic index, which means it won’t affect your blood sugar levels as much as regular refined sugars. Its mild flavour makes it ideal for use in baked goods, desserts and drinks.

The maple tree is primarily grown in the eastern regions of North America. It’s valued for its sweet sap that is harvested and processed into different foods such as butter, cream, sugar and, of course, maple syrup! It’s often used as a replacement for high fructose corn syrup due to its similar consistency and sweetness levels. It’s one of the purest natural sweeteners available and contains many beneficial nutrients such as calcium, magnesium and zinc.

Roughly three percent of the sugarcane’s sucrose gets converted into blackstrap molasses during the initial boiling process of raw sugar. It’s a very dark, bitter syrup that contains small amounts of minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium and copper. It’s often used as a flavouring for baked goods and is combined with things like ginger to counter its bitter taste.

A by-product of processing white rice into polished rice, brown rice syrup is a sweetener that has received growing attention over the years. It’s essentially a liquid form of brown rice that has been cooked down to a thick, colourless consistency. It contains B-vitamins and amino acids and is about the closest thing to real sugar that you can get without using it. It has a thinner consistency than honey and a milder taste as well.

10) Coconut Palm Sugar:

Coconut sugar is the young flower stalk of the coconut tree, typically cut down before it matures and turns into a coconut. It’s crushed and cooked in a process similar to how sugar cane is refined into table sugar. It contains small amounts of iron, copper, magnesium and potassium. It’s one of the only known sweeteners that contains some nutrients, and it’s about seventy percent as sweet as table sugar.

Whenever you’re trying to eat a healthy diet, it’s always important to watch what you’re using to sweeten your food and drinks. Many artificial and highly-processed sweeteners have been proven to cause health problems, some even causing cancer. I myself am not a big fan of using sweeteners but I know there are times when something needs a little added sweetness, so I choose the natural ones over the fake stuff.
