What’s Causing the Blackheads on My Chin and How Do I Treat Them

Blackheads are small white bumps located on your face. They are caused due to excess oil production from sebum secretions. Blackheads may appear when you spend time in hot or humid environment. You may also get blackhead if you have acne and these types of skin problems. If you want to treat blackheads, then it is very important that you follow the right procedure and do not forget to use proper products.

How To Remove Blackheads?

The first thing that you need to do is wash your face with warm water. Then, apply some facial cleanser and gently massage it into your skin. After washing, pat dry your face. Next, apply a mild exfoliant such as BHA (beta hydroxy acid) cream or glycolic acid peel gel onto the affected area of your face. Do not rub too hard because doing so will cause irritation and breakouts. Leave the product on your face for at least 15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse off the product with lukewarm water.

After removing blackheads, you may experience redness and swelling around your eyes. However, if you don’t mind discomfort, then proceed to the next step which is using a cotton ball to dab them out.

This method works best if you have oily skin since it helps remove all the dead skin cells from your pores. Black heads are caused by clogged pores and blockages of dead skin cells. Do not squeeze or pick your blackheads since it may cause scars and lead to infection.

There are also other home remedies that you can try:

Extracting blackheads using a needle cleansing. This works well on small-sized blackheads.

Warm up the needle using a lighter. Then, sterilize it by dipping it into alcohol. Be careful when doing this so you would not get hurt. Now, sterilize your face and then gently push the needle in the middle of the blackhead. Once you find the right position, it should just pop out.

Extracting blackheads using a strip. This is an effective way on removing blackheads but it may cause pain.

You can get these from any stores that sell beauty products. First, cleanse your face and then dry it off. Carefully peel off the backing and apply the strip on your nose. After that, smooth out the edges so there are no gaps. Leave the strip on your nose for at least 20 minutes, or more than an hour. Once the time is up, carefully peel off the strip from your nose. You may feel some stinging or minor pain but it should come off easily if you did it right.

Extracting blackheads using a pore strip. This is similar to the previous method but instead of using a strip you can use mask.

Apply it on your nose like you normally do and leave it there for the time indicated in the instructions. After the time is up, peel off the mask from one side to the other. Blackheads should come out with it.

You can also try this natural remedy:

Combine 1 tbsp of lemon juice with 1 tbsp of honey into a bowl. Using a cotton ball, apply this mixture to the affected area and leave it on for about 10 minutes.

After that, wash your face with warm water.

Blackhead can also be caused by dead or damaged skin cells so you need to gently exfoliate your skin once a week. This will prevent further blockages and other problems with your pores.

Always remember to use sunscreen when going outside so you can avoid excess oil in the first place.

The above is a general guide on how to get rid of blackheads. Now that you have learned what causes them and how to prevent them from happening, all you need to do is maintain your routine and keep your skin healthy.

If however, you notice that the methods above are not working for you or you find them too complicated then it may be best to visit a dermatologist.

A dermatologist will be able to tell you what products and ingredients work best for your skin type. A lot of the time, dermatologists can even find what is causing your blackheads in the first place.

If you have a medical condition such as an irregular heartbeat or a hormonal disorder like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), then a dermatologist will be able to prescribe the right medication to treat your condition.

In any case, once your blackheads are gone, you will be able to achieve that flawless looking and feeling skin that you have always wanted. You will be more confident when speaking to others and you will feel great!
