What Is Saigon Cinnamon?
Saigon cinnamon is a type of cinnamon with a strong aroma similar to cloves or nutmeg. It is usually found in the spice section at most grocery stores. It comes from Vietnam and it is sold under several names such as “Khaosan” (cinnamon sticks), “Vung Tau” (cinnamon leaf) and “Nguoi Nghia” (Hanoi cinnamon).

It is a lot smaller than the traditional type of cinnamon and it only bears flowers once every few years.
How does it taste?

How do you use it?

If you’re using whole sticks, then 1 stick is enough for 4 servings. You can also roast the cinnamon first for a stronger taste. All you have to do is add the cinnamon sticks to a dry pan and heat it over a stove. You can keep on swirling the pan until the cinnamon starts to get crispy and this should take around 5 minutes.
You can then turn off the heat and leave the pan to cool before grinding or crushing the cinnamon.

Cinnamon can also be used in drinks. All you need to do is add a cinnamon stick to your coffee or tea for an interesting flavor.
