How to Stay Awake in Class Without Coffee?

The first thing you need to do is decide if you want to go through with your plan or not. If you are going to continue reading then you have decided whether or not it’s worth it for you. You might as well keep reading since there are other ways to stay awake than just coffee.

If you’re still deciding, here are some things to consider:

You don’t like caffeine. You’ve tried it before and didn’t enjoy it at all. You’ll probably hate it again when you try it for real (and I’m guessing you won’t).

It’s possible that your teachers will give you a cup of water instead of coffee during the lesson.

You might feel sleepy during the day and you’ll wake up later than usual. Maybe you could use a nap break to get yourself back into a better mindset.

You might be able to skip the coffee altogether, but that would mean skipping breakfast which is usually one of the best parts of class. Breakfast is always good because it provides energy for the rest of the day. You’d rather eat something healthy than junk food.

The best way for you to start off is to DON’T SLEEP! Seriously, it is really easy to sleep in class because a lot of classes tend to be boring. I am not going to lie, if you are a high school student then I would rather have you sleeping in class rather than doing something else. So please, just don’t go to that extreme. I will show you a couple of tips and tricks that will help keep you awake during class.

Walk around before class starts: This can help get the blood flowing throughout your body. It makes you sit up straight and most importantly, stay awake. Go grab a snack: Get a glass of milk or maybe some fruit.

If you are eating something while you are in class it will help keep you awake since you will be distracted by the food. Sing: Sometimes when I am bored in class, rather than sleeping, I find myself singing a song in my head. This might not work for everyone, but it keeps me occupied and awake. Count backwards: This doesn’t necessarily have to be from 100. You could start from whatever number you want, but the idea is to focus on a number and counting downwards. This can help with staying awake in class, trust me.

There are times when we have to be awake during class. This can be hard sometimes, but there are ways to do this without drinking a bunch of coffee.

Honestly, we don’t need coffee at all when we are sick. There are more ways to stay awake in class without drinking potentially harmful drinks. It is much healthier to use natural ways to help our bodies.

These tips are natural and better for us, so if you don’t like drinking coffee then you may want to look into these instead.

Drinking Water: Many people don’t really think water can keep us awake, but it can actually do the opposite if we aren’t drinking enough of it. If you are dehydrated your body releases a hormone that makes you sleepy. So drink up!

When you are drinking water you will also feel more awake because your mind will know that you have to go to the bathroom soon. This makes your brain focus on that instead of fading off into dreamland. The best time to drink water is in the morning while you are still sleepy. This will hydrate you and keep you awake for the entire day!

Eat Food: While this isn’t a replacement for sleep, it can really help keep our energy levels up during the day. Foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals are the best. These give your body natural sugars that keep you up and going during the day.

Some examples of these kinds of foods are bananas, eggs, and tomatoes. If you are having problems staying awake during school then eat foods like these to keep you refreshed for the rest of your classes!

Exercise: This may seem counter intuitive, but exercise actually helps people stay awake, especially when they are just sitting still. If you exercise on a regular basis then you are used to your body staying awake when it is physically exerting itself. This can also help during in class naps.

If you are in the habit of taking a nap every day then try going for a quick jog or work out in the morning before you start your classes for the day. This will keep you hydrated and give you plenty of energy when class starts.

There are times when you just can’t stay awake in class and there is nothing that you want to do to stop it. This is a problem that affects a lot of people and it can be hard to pay attention, let alone fight the urge to sleep. There are multiple reasons why this happens and there are ways that you can try and combat them so you can stay awake during your classes.

Why Do You Keep Falling Asleep In Class?

There are multiple reasons why people fall asleep in class. It is important to figure out what the problem is before you can try to fix it.

You Are Sleep Deprived: This is a big one and it is highly likely that this is why you can’t stay awake in class. If you have stayed up all night on a regular basis then there is a good chance that you are sleep deprived. Your body naturally wants to sleep and if you don’t give it enough rest then it will make you sleepy during the day.

You Aren’t Interested In The Class: If you really aren’t into what your class is learning then it is natural for your mind to want to shut off and do something else. Your brain isn’t getting excited by what it is learning, so it naturally starts to shut off.

You Have A Medical Condition: There are some medical conditions that can cause you to fall asleep without warning. The only way to really find out if this is the case is to visit a doctor and have them run some tests. It is always best to be safe than sorry!

You Are Bored: This isn’t a huge problem like the others, but it can contribute to you falling asleep. If you find the class or teacher dull then your brain may start looking for ways to amuse itself, and eventually it will shut off and enter dreamland. Try listening to music while you are at school.

Music helps a lot of people concentrate because it blocks out a lot of the unnecessary noise that can distract you. Music can also be soothing and can help you relax.

Try To Figure Out What Is Causing The Problem: It is important to figure out the specific reason that you are having problems staying awake in class. Once you have a reason then you can start to address that issue specifically. These are just a few of the most common reasons why people have a hard time staying awake during the day, but there are other things that can cause this problem as well.

How To Stay Awake In Class Without Falling Asleep?

There are many things you can do to try and stay awake in class without resorting to taking a nap. Some of these may work better for you than others, but if you mix up a few of them during class then you should have no problem staying awake.

Drink A Lot Of Coffee: This is a pretty simple solution, but it only works if you like the taste of coffee. If you do then drinking a lot of coffee before you head to class will naturally make you more awake. Just be careful not to have too much, because that can make you just as sleepy as not having any at all.

Have A Snack: Eating before you head to class is always a good idea. Just be careful what you eat because some foods can make you drowsy, like bananas or anything with cinnamon in it. Other foods such as peanuts, crackers, or cookies can naturally make you more awake.

If you do not like the taste of coffee and do not want to eat anything then drinking some type of energy drink can give you a quick burst of energy.

Sit In The Front: This tip really only works if you are actually paying attention in class. If you really are bored then moving to the front of the class might be enough to keep you awake. If your teacher says anything then just tell them that you have a hard time hearing and want to be closer.

Breathe Deeply: Sometimes when we start to get sleepy our breathing becomes shallow. Taking deep breaths forces your body to wake up a bit and get some extra oxygen flowing through your veins. All you have to do is breathe in deeply and then slowly release that breath.

Do this a few times and you should start to feel more awake.

Change Your Environment: If you are sitting in the same place you usually are at school then your brain can recognize this as a sign that you are supposed to be sleeping. Get up and walk around for awhile, go sit in the library or some place else you do not normally spend much time in. Just as long as your brain does not recognize where you are, then it will assume that it needs to stay awake since you do not know your surroundings.

Get Some Air: If you feel yourself starting to drift off then get up and go stand by an open window if there is one around or just go stand outside if it is feasible. The cool air on your face will help you wake up and the change of environment again helps as well. After you have been out there for awhile you may want to come back in since it can get quite cold if you are not wearing a jacket.

Move Around: If you are really having problems staying awake then move around as much as possible without drawing attention to yourself or falling asleep in class. Get up and walk around for a few minutes, maybe go to the bathroom or get a drink. It does not matter what you do as long as you are moving around and not just sitting in your seat because once you sit back down you may very well fall asleep.

Taking A Nap: This is a solution, but it is not a long term solution. Taking a nap during school will help you feel awake once you wake up, but it is easy to become dependant on these naps and they will eventually make things worse.

If you find that you are taking a lot of naps during the day and still not feeling tired at night then you need to talk to someone about this situation. Your teacher or parent should be able to help you, there may be another reason why you are not feeling sleepy at night.

Staying Awake At Night

If you have decided that it would be better for you to stay awake at night then you are going to need to take some steps to make this happen. The best way to do this is to try and take advantage of your circadian rhythms. Most people sleep after a long day of activity and are tired at night, this means your body is programmed to be awake when it is dark and sleepy when it is light.

If you want to force yourself to stay awake at night then the easiest way to do this is to make your surroundings as dark as possible. This will trick your brain into thinking it is night time. If you can sleep in a room that doesn’t get a lot of light even when the sun is out then you don’t need to do anything else, just try and stay awake.

If your room does not block out a lot of the light then you need to do something else.

Cover Up: If you have a lot of windows in your room then you need to cover them up so that not a lot of light is getting in. If you can’t block out all of the light or there is a lot of light coming in then you need to do something else to make things darker. You could turn on a red lamp and make it very dark in the room.

You can also turn on a small night light so that you can at least see what you are doing if you need to get up in the middle of the night.

Dim The Lights: If you have lights that can be dimmed or turned off then do so. Do not turn them all the way down to darkness though, as this may make things too dark for you to be able to get around if you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night or get a drink.

Wear A Hat: If you are really serious about forcing your body to stay awake then you can do the ultimate test. Wear a hat, or a hood, or something that will cover your entire face and keep out all of the light. This will force your mind to be in complete darkness and should keep you from feeling sleepy at all.
