Is Sour Cream Keto-Friendly

Is Sour Cream Keto-Friendly?

Sour cream is one of the most popular dairy products on the market today. It’s not only used in baking but it’s also a common ingredient in many other foods. You’ll often see it added to ice creams, cakes, cookies, pies and even desserts! Some people may think that sour cream isn’t good for them because they’re sensitive to dairy or lactose intolerant. However, there are some people who do enjoy eating dairy products such as sour cream. There are two types of people: those who don’t like dairy and those who do. If you fall into the second category then you might want to avoid consuming any kind of dairy product including sour cream.

If you’re someone who doesn’t mind drinking milk or yogurt with your meals then you probably won’t experience digestive issues from consuming these items. On the other hand if you’re allergic to either of these things then you may still consume them.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you’re going to be able to tolerate the taste of sour cream. Many people will say that they can, while others may say that they just aren’t very fond of it at all.

If you’re not going to eat it then what’s the point of buying a container of sour cream?

Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of consuming sour cream on a regular basis.

The Pros

Keeps Your Food Moist – As we get older our tastebuds tend to dull which means that we won’t be able to taste food as strongly as we once did. In order to combat this issue, many people will add sour cream to their meals in order to give other foods a bit more taste.

Can Be Used For Cooking – While it’s true that some people don’t like sour cream, there are others who love the taste of it. If you’re one of those people then you’re going to want to keep a container of sour cream in your fridge at all times. Not only can it be eaten with certain things, but you can also cook with it.

It Has Probiotic Properties – One of the main things that you’re going to find in most types of sour cream is probiotic properties. The more probiotics that you can get into your body on a regular basis, the better off you’re going to be. These are important because they’re going to help your digestive system work more efficiently and keep you from getting sick as much.

The Cons

Can Be Costly – This is something that can really hurt your wallet. Not only is sour cream rather expensive, but it usually doesn’t last all that long either. In fact, some people suggest that you should eat sour cream within 5 days of opening the container otherwise you might end up wasting it.

Some People Can’t Stand It – There are many people who either don’t like the taste of sour cream or they can’t have it at all. If you’re someone who finds this to be the case then you definitely aren’t going to want to consume it on a regular basis because this is something that you won’t be able to afford to do anyway.

High in Fat and Calories – Another thing to take into consideration is that sour cream is rather high in fat and calories. If you’re someone who doesn’t have the best diet to begin with then this is going to do nothing but make it worse.

Can Lead to Weight Gain – And as we all know, weight gain isn’t exactly the healthiest thing for your body. In fact, if you’re not careful weight gain can lead to other health problems that may prove to be fatal.

Not Good For Those With Diabetes – If you have diabetes then you’re really going to want to stay away from sour cream altogether. The food itself contains a lot of fat and carbohydrates which are two things that people with this condition should stay away from. Each tablespoon of sour cream has a whopping 1 gram of carbohydrate in it.

So as you can see, sour cream can be a blessing and a curse, it all just depends on how and how much you use it in your diet.
