8 Best Vitamins and Supplements for Dry Skin

Vitamins are essential substances which have a vital role in human body. They play an important role in the development and maintenance of health. There are many different types of vitamins and minerals. Some vitamins are water soluble while others must be taken with food or other liquids such as milk, juice, tea etc.. Some vitamins may even be toxic if not used properly. These nutrients must be consumed regularly to maintain optimal health and function of our bodies.

There are several types of vitamins and minerals. Vitamin A is one of them.

It plays an important role in vision, bone growth, immune system, cell division and energy production. Vitamin D is another type of vitamin which plays an important role in maintaining healthy bones and teeth. Other vitamins include B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin) and B6 (pyridoxine). All these vitamins are required for proper functioning of various organs in the body.

The most common form of vitamins and minerals is known as dietary supplements. Dietary supplements consist mainly of natural compounds derived from plants and animals, including some microorganisms.

These naturally occurring substances are usually manufactured by humans using chemicals or synthetic materials. The main purpose of these supplements is to promote health and to prevent or cure diseases.

Vitamins are important for a person’s growth and maintenance of good health. There are two types of vitamins; water soluble and fat soluble vitamins.

These water soluble vitamins are easily removed from the body and so should be taken consistently through out the day. Excess water soluble vitamins are easily eliminated from the body through urine.

Fat soluble vitamins are absorbed and stored in the body’s fat cells and therefore a much smaller quantity is required in the diet. These vitamins can be toxic if taken in excess quantities.

The most common fat soluble vitamins are A, D, E and K. (2).

Research suggests that certain supplements have great health benefits and reduce the risk of some diseases. Many of these supplements are a combination of more than one type of vitamin or mineral.

These supplements are usually referred to as multivitamins. Multivitamins in general do not contain large quantities of any one vitamin or mineral. (1)

People who do not get adequate amounts of certain vitamins and minerals from their daily diet are more likely to develop a deficiency. These people may need to take multivitamins or specific supplements.

For adults, the recommended daily allowance of some vitamins and minerals changes with age. For some, the amount needed increases as the person ages. This is due to decreased ability to absorb nutrients from food and a decreased need for energy. As a result, older adults should focus on getting enough vitamins and minerals in their diet.

Vitamins are classified into two groups: water soluble and fat soluble. Water soluble vitamins dissolve in water and excess quantities are excreted out of the body through urine.
